Pent up and will burst out of their local market the next five years- Chinese banksGo to a big Chinese city and they are all over the place. They are big and full of the savings of the Chinese people who are conditioned by hard experience to save for rainy day . Presumably they have non posioned themselves on toxic assets but do own a lot of US government bonds and so are in fact propping ups the largest economy in the world.Yet are largely unknown outside of China. Expect HSBC style rebranding from one or several Do you find this valuable? |

Going Up building on your point about VouchersThey will increasing be downloaded from the internet and in the next few years delivered onto your mobile. At the moment most are marketed via an email alert And they are "limited time offers with deep discounts"-ie eye catchingly big and simple to get us to open our wallets-eg half price,BOGOF-but time limited so creating a word of mouth buzz. You get lots of mails/alerts from friends saying things... If 4 of us go to Pizza Express, 2 of us will eat free..how about it...gotta do it before Sunday but only offered for a very limited period of time which will be used to create buzz Do you find this valuable? |

3. Going up: dating sites (and romcom?)
Mar 29 2009, 7:51 AM EDT
Great stat in The Economist this week-as the stock market goes down visits to dating sites go up especially those where people are seeking partners rather than just flirting. According to eHarmony.com there is a direct correlation between increased visits to their site a fall in the Dow Jones industrial average. Why? More time to devote to relationships rather than work?A sign of cocooning against the chill winds of recession? Fits in with increased sales of romcom DVDs

4. RE: Going up: the housing market (esp London)
Apr 3 2009, 12:42 PM EDT
Too many factors mean that it is bound to rebound.1) Natural desire for change driven by hatches matches and dispatches 2) Flight to safety. Witness how much business NS&I are doing. Arguably the only thing that is safer than houses. We still trust bricks and mortar especially in London where the press of population is bound to hold up the market just thru demand 3) interest rates remain low 4) the pound remains weak so buyers from abroad 5) so much of the British economy is tied up with turnover in the housing market 6) why give you money to a bunch of gamblers when you can buy something you can see and touch

5. RE: Going up: somewhere to park you bike/Electric Bikes
Apr 3 2009, 12:48 PM EDT
Inspite of the steady increase in the supply of bike stands in London, growing demand is outstripping supply.the electric bike must be set for growth as well especially if you can chain it to a bike stand Do you find this valuable? |
